Dori-Anne Newton

I am a retired Workaholic!  After spending almost 6 years in Pharmaceutical Advertising and wasting money on Therapy, I realized it wasn’t me, it was my job!  My personality was not meant for that industry, it was too sterile, too demanding and too political.  I was completely burned out- cried every Sunday night and Monday morning on the train to work, woke up sweating in the middle of the night with fear that I screwed something up and was going to get in trouble the next day, gained a lot of weight, had a lot of health issues, my marriage suffered... I even forgot my parents 40th Wedding Anniversary!

I realized the industry wasn’t for me and that I wasn’t being respected at work.  I quit without a new position lined up... Went to Thailand with friends for 2 weeks and learned that there is more to life then status and making money.  Most of the people of Thailand are poor and sleep on floors, but are still happy.  They value their health and family and I vowed to make this a priority.

When I got back, I enrolled in career counseling (which didn’t really help) and tried to identify my skills and talents by enrolling in day classes.

I am know working as a Freelancer for a small PR firm and love it.  I work from home, make my own hours and longer need to make appointments to use the bathroom!

While I do have a ways to go in my journey, I have discovered a new meaning to life and hobbies and strengths I didn’t know I had.

I hope this helps others gain the strength to put themselves first, just like I did!
